Hannah's Process
...
As a certified holistic nutritionist and somebody who truly believes food is medicine, the ingredients I use are of utmost importance. Not only am I picky about the quality (organic, non-gmo, local wherever possible) of the ingredients, but the nutritional breakdown - how the ingredients are processed in your body- is at the foundation of developing a recipe.
While everyone has their own unique response to different foods, balancing blood sugar levels is essential for overall wellness. When your blood sugar is all over the place, you can get hormonal & mood imbalances, weight issues, anxiety, added stress on your body & adrenals, cravings and maybe even hangry.... do any of these sound familiar? The goal is to have a smooth sail through the day, minimal cravings (for sweet things), and stable mood & energy levels.
Not all carbs are created equally when we look at their impact on the body & blood sugar. This is why I like to use green plantain, WildFlora's superfood ingredient, because although it is a carb, it is high in something called resistant starch. This is a special type of fiber that moves through your system slowly and relatively undigested, allowing for steady energy levels - no crash & burn. It also serves as food for your good gut bacteria - it is a pre-biotic, thus enhancing your gut as well as your immune and hormonal health.
A lot of the gluten-free processed products out there are made from sugars (in the form of rice flours, tapioca, etc.) and other junk and contain very little nutrition and wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels, choose wisely my friends!
